So often we look around for opportunities to meet needs, our eyes are drawn overseas. But here in the US, there are so many opportunities to be light to people who need Jesus. In Los Angeles alone, more than 51,000 men, women and children have no place to call home. Approximately 957,000 adults here are classified as “food insecure” in this region. But the real tragedy are the additional 640,000 children who also face the day not knowing if they will get enough to eat or not either.
But there is hope! Compelled by a vision to impact all of Los Angeles by addressing people’s physical, material, and spiritual needs, The Dream Centers purpose is to reconnect isolated people to God and a community of support by providing human services that address immediate and long-term needs in the areas of homelessness, hunger, poverty, addiction, education, and human trafficking.
Join us for a week, as we serve alongside of this ministry, to not only gain awareness for the needs right in our own backyard, but also find practical ways we can step out in faith to meet the needs of others while also sharing the life-giving message of the Gospel with them.
Your team will have the chance to help with the hot dog cart, which goes into areas where people are experiencing homelessness and intense poverty. You will spend a week serving the community by picking up trash, building relationships, painting, sweeping the streets, and basically anyway that we can help change the atmosphere of that block!
Along with your team, you will have the opportunity to help bag up unprepared groceries at the Food Bank and hand them out to the approximate 600 local community members who need it! You will also have the opportunity to be a part of a Food Truck Ministry, that goes to 32 distribution sites each month and serves more than 40,000 people!
Your team will work alongside the Dream Center’s Transitional Housing Program for families that are experiencing homelessness. They are able to seek refuge and safety here and receive housing, food, clothing, and showers for up to six months. And we will have the chance to meet many of these families and provide childcare while parents are at work, GED classes, doing laundry, etc.
Join a movement that is changing not only the lives of individuals in desperate need, but entire families, communities, and cities across the country!
